Guest poet: Clara Rose Thornton

Guest host: BeRn

Tues, Dec 15th, 8pm

Arthers, 28 Thomas St, Dublin

The format of the night takes its inspiration from the last weekly poetry open mic in Dublin, Write and Recite (2004-8), and Ó Bhéal: Cork’s Weekly Poetry Event.

Sign up 7.30-8pm, and the reading order follows that of the names on the list.

This month’s guest host is Ireland’s uncompromising “frock” poet and musician, BeRn.

Our guest poet this month is 2014/15/16 Leinster Slam Champion and 3rd place in the 2016 All-Ireland Slam, Clara Rose Thornton. Check her out at the links below.

The night begins at 8pm with the Gerry McNamara Five Word Challenge.

Five words, that are taken from your suggestions in the comment section here, that will be pulled from a hat on the night.

Those wanting to participate then have the time of a pint-break to rustle up a spontaneous poem in which all the five words appear, and which are then read at the mic, if you want to.

This section is then followed by our guest poet (20 mins), and after that a two-hour open mic.

The old Write and Recite was a great place for poets at all grades of experience and ability to meet, share and recite on a level playing field, with a real democratic ethos, in which everyone is treated the same.

It was also a place you could get at least ten minutes reading in public every week. This is the spirit impelling us to create our inaugural open-mic.

So, get throwing in your words for the five word challenge and they will be drawn randomly on the night at the venue.

This is a free event and all are welcome to read and recite.
